Study Stay
A study stay at our faculty lasts at least one semester. You can start your stay in either the winter or summer semester. Subjects of the 5th to 10th semester can be taken, provided that they do not overlap in time.
The course of studies includes various modules that must be completed in order for the subject to be considered passed and for you to receive the corresponding ECTS points. You may encounter the following modules when planning your stay:
- Lectures (VL)
- Bedside teaching (UaK)
- Seminar (SE)
- Internship (PR)
- Block lessons
- Course
- Excursus
- Tutorial
- Case of the week
Lectures and courses take place weekly or every 14 days. Attendance is not obligatory here. However, we strongly recommend attending the lecture or course in order to pass the exam offered at the end of the semester.
For all other modules, students are required to attend the course without fail.
The exams are written at the beginning of the lecture-free period (approx. February and July/August of a year). Without passing the exam you will not receive any ECTS points for the subject. Plan your stay accordingly. You can find the academic calendar here.
Some subjects are offered over a period of two semesters with an exam in the second semester (summer semester). You can only take these subjects if you are with us for a whole academic year.
Winter semester: 5th / 7th / 9th semester
Summer semester: 6th / 8th / 10th semester

Blackboard
On the blackboard you will find all important information about your studies.
Under the tab of the respective semester you will find information on all subjects offered in that semester. Lecture schedules, lesson times, grouping for internships and other important information on the individual subjects can be found subdivided according to the corresponding semesters and subjects.

The files marked with OWL are valid for the location Ostwestfalen-Lippe and are irrelevant for you. If files are marked with OWL and Bochum, the information they contain is valid for both locations and therefore also for you.
Additional information such as semester schedules and contact details are also listed there.
Placement (Clinical Rotation)
During a clinical rotation you will work in a team with the doctors of the corresponding department and get to know the daily routine of the clinic as authentically as possible. The clinical rotation in our clinics therefore has a minimum duration of 2 weeks. In the departments of psychiatry and psychotherapy, as well as psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy of the LWL-Clinic, you will complete a clinical traineeship of at least 4 weeks.
Unfortunately, we cannot currently offer foreign students the opportunity to complete part or all of their internship year with us.
One week of clinical traineeship (five working days/40 hours) corresponds to 1.25 ECTS* points.
